I try my hardest to switch out our dramatic play center about every 2-3 weeks. Despite how exhausting/time consuming/stressful it can be. It probably wouldn't be that stressful to most people, but for some reason I feel the need to really carry the ideas all the way out.
This time last year, we actually did pumpkins AND THEN apples, because we were taking a field trip to a pumpkin patch. Therefore, our dramatic play area was a pumpkin patch. I was even brave enough to put a wagon in there!
This year, since we are doing apples first, I thought I would do an apple pie bakery. I already have a lot of fake apples, so I put them all out. Bought some pie tins, added plates, spatulas, rolling pins, and some empty spice containers.
I also made a dramatic play set similar to the one I made for a picnic. It includes menus, ordering cards, small item pictures, and some food word cards to be displayed.
Do you have a dramatic play area in your classroom? (probably only if you teach pre-school :) ) If so, do you do anything special for apples or change out the area much?
P.S. I added a touch of Halloween to my blog for the month of Oct. with a Halloween inspired background!
P.S.S. This set is now available for purchase in my TpT store and Teacher's Notebook Store
Love it Erin!! I changed my dramatic play area for our apple theme. I made it more of an apple orchard....we had baskets, I painted a paper tree and put on the wall, had fake apples, cash register etc. The kids LOVE when I change the theme, looking forward to seeing more ideas you have for dramatic play area :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine! I will probably leave the tree up for pumpkins, add pumpkins, cash register, prices, and some hay I have painted on paper too! I left pumpkins and apples together last time and will probably do the same again. I as going to put some apples on the tree in the dramatic play area, but I figured the kiddos would just pull them off and the tree would rip, so it can be decoration-sans apples! :)
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I wish I was in preschool and you were my teacher!!! :) PS Congrats on being a fellow guest blogger for Frogs, Bees and Under the Seas! Woo hoo!!!!!!! I'm in good company!

Could you post the apple dramatic play props on your tpt store?
ReplyDeleteAngela I'm glad you asked! :) I was curious to see what the interest level would be in purchasing that item (and/or the counting cards posted in my Apple Preview post)because I would have to purchase a license from Just So Scrappy before I could see these items and I want to see if the license would be worth it! It is certainly something I am considering and will let you know if I do :)
ReplyDeleteSuper! Let me know! I would purchase both, counting cards and center materials!
ReplyDeleteI have added the dramatic play set to both TpT and TN! I will be uploading both sets of counting cards (separately) here soon! :)
