I might just be a {wee} bit excited for Easter!

Every weekend usually involves a trip to walmart for me. Whether I'm in need of something, or my classroom is. Usually it's my classroom. I should really just have my school district deposit my paycheck to Walmart and Michaels. Might be easier.

I found myself get a little Easter Holiday happy while I was there on Sunday.

I went ahead and picked up items for a pinterest inspired Peep treat to give my kiddos before Spring Break too.

There were only 3 Easter items on my list when I got there: jelly beans, m & ms, and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick (because I haven't a clue where the copy I already own is!)

I think it's obvious I walked away with more items than that! I saw the Splat the Cat book in Michaels, and it is a.dor.a.ble. It's a lift the flap book, which I typically steer away from, but as a group activity I think we can handle it. I hope to share with you the idea I have for that book! It involves that large yellow egg in the back too!

And did you all see Abby's post about The Easter Bunny's Assistant? She raved about the book on Friday in this post. When I saw it in the store I had to look inside. Oh. my. word. HILARIOUS. You have to go buy this book. Your kids will love it! The activities Abby made for the text are too high for my kiddos, but I know I want to make something this week to accompany the read aloud. I definitely need to go check out more books by Jan Thomas!

Are you doing any really fun activities for Easter? Share them in a comment! Is your school even allowed to do Easter related activities? I am SO GLAD we are allowed to!

  1. Hi Erin- I loved reading this post and about the Egg-u-cational eggs with the letters on them. I went right away to our local Walmart to learn that they were OUT ! UGH!!! Luckily, my loving hubbie found them at another Walmart where he was working that day! Ihe got the last 3 boxes they had. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing your ideas for using them, I need some ideas, and your are always great! Thank you.

  2. Hi Pam! I am actually just using them for our egg hunt--ha! I liked them better than the other options, and they are just filled with plain jelly beans, what I liked better for my kiddos. BUT, you're right! There are so many things you could use these for.

You could put them in a large basket and ask a student to find a certain letter either by naming it, or providing the sound, after your egg hunt you could sort them--all the A's in one spot, etc. You could challenge your kiddos to spell their names with them (then they get to keep the ones they used if you have enough)

I hope those are some helpful ideas for you! :)

  3. Hi Erin- thanks for the ideas! I went ahead and opened them up and got the jelly beans out and gave them to the kiddos, because I didn't want them to 'go bad' or melt while I store them away until next year- Ha!! I just think they are precious. I can't wait to use them next year in my small groups!

  6. Thanks Erin for the ideas! I didn't use them for our egg hunt, but I did go ahead and take all the jelly beans out and gave them to the kiddos and I ate some too of course---ha! I plan on storing them until next year, and I didnt want the jelly beans to 'go bad', and I just couldn't think of anything else to do with them.......lol ! These eggs are so cute, and I can't wait to use them next year with my small groups.
